Press Release Body = Music is everywhere. Whether you notice it or not you most
likely listen to music throughout your day. In the car on your way to work, in the
elevator, on the phone while you are on hold, in stores while you shop, the list
could go on for pages. Music is pleasant and distracting and these two reasons
contribute to why it has become a major asset to those who exercise.

"Anything that makes the time go by faster and takes your mind off the task at hand
can make exercise fun," says Nicole Masden, personal trainer with Dallas-based Lady
Trainers To Go.

It isn't a mystery why so many members at the gym are plugged into portable mp3
players or radios, or why exercise DVDs come with their own pumped-up soundtrack.
The so-called secret? It works.

"Music motivates you and entertains you while you workout," says Masden. "The beat
of the music is great in aerobic exercises - it can help you keep rhythm on the
elliptical trainer or on the bike." And indeed it can. The next time you find
yourself tiring or slowing down your tempo prematurely, turn up the volume on your
iPod, or concentrate on the overhead music. Let your body move in tune with the
music. Your focus and concentration will motivate your body to move at a faster pace
and you will be shifting your concentration from your movements and fatigue, to
something less physical.

Retailers are well aware of the popularity of mp3 players, portable radios, and
iPods amongst the physically fit and active. Stores from across the country are
having trouble keeping these players and their accessories on the shelves. You can
accessorize your equipment with armbands, clips, and even waterproof cases so that
your favorite artists can keep you company while you swim laps.

Music can go anywhere - but while you are enjoying the release and are absorbed in
the tempo, make sure not to lose a feel for your environment.

"Be aware of your surroundings when running or biking outside," advises Masden. "It
can be hard to hear traffic."

The next time you need a little boost to your workout, plug in to your favorite
songs and let the lyrics, the rhythm, and the beat keep you going.
